Learn stranded colorwork in this three-session class with Mel Schofield.
Have you always wanted to learn to knit fair isle stranded colorwork, or wanted to improve your
colorwork skills? This class is for you! In this class we will knit a cute beanie using one hank of Woolstok
Worsted and 7 minis in the colors of your choice. Skills covered include the Twisted German cast on,
twisted rib, reading a basic colorwork chart, knitting stranded colorwork with one color in each hand,
strategies to maintain gauge and tension, basic decreases for the crown of the hat, knitting on double
points, and finishing techniques for making your colorwork look great. Be careful, you might get addicted
to knitting these beanies!
Hat pattern, Crystal Grid by Moonlight Fiber Arts, is included. All other supplies are available in the shop.
Yarn: Woolstok Worsted by Blue Sky Fibers. Main color (MC): One 50 g hank (123 yds/112 m). Contrast
colors: Seven 5 g mini hanks (12 yds/10 m each) for contrast colors.
Suggested needles:
A: US size 6 (4 mm) 16 in (40 cm) circular for ribbing
or 2 US sizes (1 mm) smaller than size needed to obtain gauge in plain stockinette.
B: US size 8 (5 mm) 16 in (40 cm) circular for plain stockinette part of body of hat
or size needed to obtain gauge.
C: US size 9 (5.5 mm) 16 in (40 cm) circular needle for stranded colorwork or size needed to obtain gauge.
US size 8 (5 mm) dpn to complete crown or size needed to obtain gauge.
Stitch markers:
One unique plus 8 additional markers (9 total). A locking removable stitch marker for BOR is convenient when switching to dpn.
Large-eye yarn needle for finishing.
About Mel Schofield:
Melissa Schofield is a voracious knitter, crocheter, and pattern designer who has never met a fiber art or
chocolate she didn’t like. Mel loves creating patterns to help knitters and crocheters build skills and
watch their creative spark ignite while making fun, functional accessories. She sees crafting as an object
